Wintergarden Returns

The America’s Garden Capital Maze Returns to Wintergarden at Dilworth Park

Dilworth Park’s Wintergarden is now open for a second season, featuringthe America’s Garden Capital Maze, on the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn. Center City District (CCD) has partnered with Greater Philadelphia Gardens to celebrate the region’s horticultural heritage and its distinction as America’s Garden Capital with more gardens in proximity than anywhere else on the continent. With more than 30 gardens within 30 miles of Philadelphia, this is something to celebrate!

America’s Garden Capital Maze, designed by Groundswell Design Group for both children and adults, features willow-branch archways, evergreens, trees, perennials, shrubs, and topiary sculptures from 34 area gardens. Twinkling lights and colorful plantings will give the Maze a festive atmosphere that will provide perfect “photo opps” to share. Anchoring the center of the Maze is a welcoming gazebo. Visitors can share their experiences and photos using hashtags, #AmericasGardenCapital #VisitPhilly #DilworthPark. The America’s Garden Capital Maze was made possible by a generous $300,000 grant from the William Penn Foundation to the Center City District Foundation (CCDF).

The fun doesn’t stop when the holidays are over. Wintergarden, and America’s Garden Capital Maze remain open through February 25, 2018 with free Garden Workshops on select dates in December, January, and February. The free Garden Workshops are hosted by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and take place in the Rothman Institute Cabin. These programs are geared toward families and adults and feature make-and-take holiday gifts, terrariums, seed starting, and more. Additionally, representatives from the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University will be on hand to lead “Ask the Expert” sessions in the America’s Garden Capital Maze following each workshop. Free Garden workshops require advance registration at phsonline.org/wintergarden.

The Wintergarden and America’s Garden Capital Maze celebrate the vision of William Penn’s original Center Square, and the 34 regional gardens and arboreta that make this region undeniably America’s Garden Capital.
