Accessing your mail.sas email account

This document explains how to configure various email clients to access the mail.sas email system.

Webmail

Your mail.sas account can be accessed through the SAS Webmail site (https://webmail.sas.upenn.edu/) with any modern web browser:

Apple Mail

Apple Mail is an email client packaged with the Mac OS X operating system and can be found in the Applications folder. Apple Mail is presently the email client we recommend for daily usage by Mac OS X users.

The instructions that follow may appear slightly different on versions of Apple Mail that ship with Mac OS X 10.3 and earlier, but the information requested is the same. Let us know if you have any questions.

Pull down the Mail menu and select Preferences...

Click once on the Accounts button in the preferences window:

Click once on the + button to add a new account:

Select IMAP as the account type, enter a new Account Description and your Full Name and Email Address into the relevant fields:

For the Incoming Mail Server field, type in imap.sas.upenn.edu and then enter your User Name and Password selected during the mail.sas account creation steps:

For the Outgoing Mail Server field, type in smtp.sas.upenn.edu, put a checkmark next to Use Authentication, and then enter your User Name and Password selected during the migration steps:

If the information you entered is correct, click on Continue to proceed and then Done to finish adding the new account.

Make sure that the Advanced tab is selected:

Make sure you have a checkmark next to Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes and Use SSL. Type in ~/Mail into the IMAP Path Prefix field:

Close the preferences window afterwards to complete configuration.
