General networking within Biology

For general purpose computing by faculty, research lab staff and graduate students, first register your computer device with the Penn Biology DHCP service. This service automatically configures your computer (laptop or desktop) when it is plugged into the Biology network.

To register your computer, visit the DHCP registration page (PennKey required).

If you use wireless service, you will also need to set up an AirSAS PennKey profile.

Once you are registered, you can plug in anywhere you find a PennNet wired outlet within Biology, or where there is AirSAS wireless coverage, if you have a computer with an installed AirPort, AirPort Extreme, 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network card.

If your group requires 100 Mbit wired service, or your computer requires a static IP address, please review the specialized networking options page for more information.
