Please note that the use of the scanner is limited to capturing research and personal data. The scanner may not be used for copying protected works, unless you have explicit permission from the copyright owner to reproduce such work.

Getting started...

At a minimum, you will need to bring the slides or film that you want to scan. The G5/1.6 has a Documents folder for people to temporarily store their image scans. However, we recommend you move data to a Zip 100 cartridge, CD-R, DVD-R, USB thumb-drive, or network volume as soon as possible.

Scanning single slides

Follow these steps to activate the Super CoolScan 5000ED and scan single slides within the Nikon Scan Photoshop plug-in:

Press Scan to scan the image; once finished, the Nikon Scan application will open the file in Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for editing. Once the image is done scanning, confirm that the green status light is not blinking, then press the eject button on front of the unit to eject the media.

Scanning batches of slides

You may use the Nikon Super CoolScan 5000ED along with the SF-210 Slide Feeder to scan batches of up to approximately 50 slides.

Your images will now proceed to scan to the specified folder. Once the images are done scanning, confirm that the green status light is not blinking, then remove the slides from the eject bin. Once you are done removing the slides, you must replace the SF-210 Slide feeder with the original media adaper.

Please replace the slide feeder with the original media adapter and return it to the desk drawer!

Scanning 35mm negative strips

You may use the Nikon Super CoolScan 5000ED to scan strips of film no less than two and and no more than six frames long. Follow these steps to activate the Super CoolScan 5000ED and scan 35mm negative strips within the Nikon Scan Photoshop plug-in application:

Your images will now proceed to scan to the specified folder. Once the images are done scanning, they will be ejected. Confirm that the green status light is not blinking, then remove the negatives from the scanner.

Changing media adapters

The Nikon Super CoolScan 5000ED uses removable internal adapters to accept different types of media, such as 35mm film, single slides, and batches of slides.
