BIOL 240 Syllabus

The objectives of this lecture course are (a) to introduce you to basic concepts in ecology and (b) to familiarize you with the ways that humans impact ecosystems and their constituent species. These objectives will be accomplished through lectures, discussions, debates, reading assignments, and collaborative research assignments.

grading and exams

  • 50 pts. Debates (Sept. 29)
  • 100 pts. Exam I (Oct. 8)
  • 100 pts. Exam 2 (Nov. 10)
  • 100 pts. Group research project (due Nov. 26)
  • 50 pts. Group presentation of project (Dec. 3)
  • 100 pts. Exam 3 (Finals week)

Tests will be based primarily on the lectures, but you must be familiar with the assigned reading. The format will be primarily short answer and may include problem solving and evaluation of experimental data as well as lecture material and assigned readings. Exams are not cumulative.
