Biology 402 examines the basic principles of protein purification and characterization, enzyme mechanism, membrane structure and function, and cellular energy and signal transduction. Emphasis is placed on the experimental approaches and reasoning behind the dissection and reconstitution of these processes at the chemical level, and in some cases at the cellular level.

grading and exams

There will be two examinations and both will have a take-home format. Each exam will beworth 100 points and consist of questions based on the interpretation and/or design of original experiments. Examples of old exams will be distributed during the course. There will be no make-up exams. Questions about exam grading will be considered only duringa one week interval after return of the graded exams to the students. These questions must be submitted in writing to the TA. Whenever an exam is considered for regrading, all answers in that exam will be considered for regrading.
