Question and Answer with Dr. Joshua Plotkin on "Evolution at the molecular level" .

Joshua Plotkin, the Martin Meyerson Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Penn, has been a fan of math since his youth. He majored in math as an undergraduate student at Harvard, studied it as a visiting student at Oxford University and also planned to continue studying it in graduate school.

Michael Kaplan receives Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by Affiliated Faculty

Dr. Josh Plotkin has been named to the first Martin Meyerson Assistant Professorship in Interdisciplinary Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences.

The Meyerson Chair was created to honor Dr. Martin Meyerson - a prominent scholar of urban design and President of the University from 1970-1981. Dr. Meyerson articulated his "One University" vision in which all of Penn's schools would collaborate to produce leading edge research and teaching that would benefit society.

Dr. Richard Schultz will receive the Research Award for 2009 from the Society for the Study of Reproduction at its 42nd Annual Meeting in July.

The Society for the Study of Reproduction Research Award recognizes an individual for their leadership in the field and an outstanding body of research published during the previous six years as judged by its originality and innovative experimental approaches.

Dr. Josh Plotkin has been named an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow for 2009.

The Sloan Research Fellowships support the work of exceptional young researchers early in their academic careers, and often at pivotal stages in their work. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation was established in 1934 and has been awarding fellowships to early career scientists, mathematicians and economists since 1955.
