Dr. Maria Rakhovskaya, who recently completed her Ph.D. degree with Drs. Dorothy Cheney and Robert Seyfarth, began working as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC.  This highly competitive policy fellowship program began in 1973 and provides opportunities for accomplished scientists and engineers to participate in and contribute to the federal policymaking process while learning firsthand about the intersection of science and policy.  Maria analyses science and technology programs in the Office of Foreign Assistance Resources to enhance assistance effectiveness.  Her office integrates planning between the State Department and the US Agency for International Development and focuses on aligning resources with policy priorities.
