SEASONAL GARDEN ASSISTANT

Description:

The seasonal garden assistant supports the Garden Coordinator with garden and grounds maintenance. We are looking for self-starter, independent, part-time seasonal gardeners to assist with a broad range of garden maintenance activities throught the garden including weeding, plant maintaince and installation, trash removal, and mowing. Certain tasks require the safe operation of gas powered equipment such as lawn mower, string trimmer, and power blower. In this position, you will work both independently and as part of a team to assist with plant care, garden events, and projects. You will be part of keeping a safe, orderly, and well maintained product and work environment.

The person sought for this position is one who can dedicate fully to any given task assigned, and can discern utility in seemingly mundane tasks. Basic understanding of plants and soil is necessary for optimal performance.

Qualifications:

Candidate shall have some demonstrable educational or experiential background with plants and soil.

Prior gardening experience is preferred.Strong verbal communication ability is required.

Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.

Must be able and fully willing to work in typical regional outdoor conditions.

PUBLIC HORTICULTURE INTERN

Description:

The James G. Kaskey Memorial Park is searching for an outgoing and motivated individual for their public horticulture internship. This is a paid ($12/hour) part time (28 hrs/week) summer internship - start and end dates are flexible based on academic schedules.

The Kaskey Park Public Horticulture Intern will work with the Park staff in various aspects of public garden management including honing horticultural skills, conducting audience surveys, creating interpretation for visitors, and working with outside organizations to build relationships to better the Park.

Qualifications:

This summer internship is intended for students currently studying horticulture, botany, landscape architecture, or a closely related field. The intern will work four days a week, and will be given the opportunity for professional development such as field trips, networking with other garden professionals in the area, and attending events. The ideal candidate will have some experience with garden design, a working knowledge of plants, and an outgoing personality.
