Professional Development for Teachers

The Biology Department offers three-hour professional development (PD) sessions for high school biology teachers and middle school life science teachers on Saturday mornings during the academic year. These PD sessions are free and open to all interested teachers and student teachers.

During the current pandemic, we will be offering our PD sessions virtually. For additional information, including announcements of upcoming PD sessions, contact Dr. Lori Spindler or sign up for our list-serv.

Each PD session includes at least one hands-on, minds-on learning activity and at least one analysis and discussion learning activity, together with an introduction to a relevant scientific topic by a Biology Department faculty member.

For each learning activity, teachers participate in the activity and we discuss relevant scientific background and advice for implementation in the classroom

Teachers are provided with the supplies needed to carry out the hands-on activities, as well as Act 48 credits.
