Each year, the department holds its retreat in the Philadelphia area. The purpose of the retreat is to facilitate interaction between faculty and students. During the retreat, a number of the Biology faculty gives brief presentations on their research. All graduate students in their third year or above are expected to present their research on posters. A poster prize will be awarded to the best poster. All participants will have ample time to interact during the seminars, meals, and discussions. The Biology Department assumes the cost of the retreat for all first-year students.
All students on dissertation status (usually third year and above) are expected to present a poster at the Department Retreat. Exceptions are granted on a case-by-case basis. The Computing Department will provide printing services. A PDF of the poster must be sent to the Computing Department one week in advance of the Department Retreat in order to allow time for printing all of the posters. It is requested that the posters have no color in the background and that they are in a standard size, such as 36 inches by 48 inches. The Biology Department will pay for the printing costs of the posters done by the Computing Department. Costs for posters printed outside of the Department will be assumed by the student.
The Biology Department Retreat is usually held on the Thursday of Fall Break. For Fall 2017, the date was October 5, 2017.
All students are expected to attend.
