Student Advisory Committee

Each academic year, the Biology Department selects a group of students to serve on its Student Advisory Committee. Committee members are tasked with creating and participating in events throughout the year, serving as peer mentors, and selecting the Biology faculty teaching award recipient in May. While prospective and current majors are welcome to reach out to Advisory Committee members with general questions and to discuss experiences within the major, please remember that all official advising must be done through the undergraduate Biology faculty and the Biology undergraduate coordinator.

2020-2021 Committee Members:

Saachi Datta is a senior majoring in Biology (General) and Religious Studies. She has enjoyed research experiences from wet lab and medical research, to bioengineering projects. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys volunteering in West Philadelphia, dancing on her dance team, and drinking coffee!

Laura Barr is a senior in the College majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. While she chose not to concentrate within the major, she particularly enjoys classes focusing on evolution, ecology and genetics. Laura will also be submatriculating into Penn's Masters of Public Health program and is excited to merge her love of biology with her passions for studying health and confronting disparities. When she's not studying, she loves playing tennis, going for long walks or runs, and exploring local, state and national parks.

Mary Lin is a senior studying Biology and Business Analytics. Her interests include biotech entrepreneurship, medicine, healthcare management, and data science. Aside from her involvement with the Biology department, she is committed to lab research in CAR T therapy and her role as Vice President of the Synapse Undergraduate Healthcare Journal. In her spare time, Mary enjoys hiking, weight-lifting, traveling and trying out new cafes.

Maya is a senior studying biology at the University of Pennsylvania. She works as a research assistant at the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies at Penn Medicine. On-campus, she is a part of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Penn Educational Studies Program. When she is relaxing, you can find Maya listening to music, reading, or spending time with her family.
